Acceptance & Confidence
Acceptance is the ability to acknowledge that difficult thoughts, emotions, and life events are inevitable and often beyond our control. Rather than resisting reality, acceptance allows us to move forward with greater clarity and resilience.
Confidence is about letting go of the self-critical thought patterns that fuel anxiety, depression, and stress. It means recognizing your ability to navigate life’s challenges and trusting yourself to endure discomfort. When you build confidence in your ability to face adversity, difficult experiences start to feel less overwhelming.
These principles define my work as a therapist. I aim to help individuals stop fighting reality by acknowledging what is beyond their control and taking the power back from difficult internal experiences by achieving a sense of confidence in their ability to cope.
Why AC?
A.C. Also Stands For...
Alison Capaldi, LMHC
I believe therapy is a transformative experience built on the relationship between two human beings. A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most powerful tools for meaningful change.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I am not a “blank slate” therapist—I bring authenticity, empathy, and humor into our work together. No one is perfect, and I strive to break down the traditional power dynamics that have long existed in therapy settings. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel empowered to grow, heal, and move toward your goals.
About Me.
I am passionate about working with adolescents, adults, and their families/support systems. I have particular specialties using research-based practices to work with individuals struggling with Anxiety Disorders and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. In addition to those specialties, I support clients through a wide range of challenges, including trauma and PTSD, depression, stress management, relationship concerns, developing confidence and self-compassion, life transitions, and career and academic stress.
My approach to treatment is rooted in my passion for evidence-based practices. I recieved my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Cornell University and went on to complete my Master's degrees at the University of Pennsylvania: an M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling and an M.Phil.Ed. in Professional Counseling. I have extensive training in treatment rooted in the latest psychological research including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) — all of which use behavioral, emotion-focused, and cognitive methods.
I place a strong emphasis on accepting the uncomfortable and uncontrollable parts of life, and focus on taking the power back from difficult internal experiences by achieving a sense of confidence in your ability to cope while remaining connected to what matters to you. This means ditching the self-critical thought processes that maintain uncomfortable feelings and replacing them with self-compassion.
